The Goal

Here is the list of things we are trying to do with this car.

  1. ENGINE - The car came with an old  Pontiac engine and transmission.  This will be removed and replaced with a 1962 GM 327 engine that I was able to procure at a decent price.  The engine came out of a '62 Corvette.  The Transmission we will use is a rebuilt 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission.  Engine highlights:
    • Painted GM Orange that was typical in the 60's
    • Modifications will be made with camshaft, cylinder heads, manifold, and fuel injection that I expect will generate around 300HP.
    • Cylinder heads will be natural aluminum
    • Breathers and PCV will be chrome
    • It will have a black intake manifold, valve covers, oil pan, throttle body, distributor, and thermostand housing
    • exhaust manifolds will be natural cast iron but may be painted with black ceramic paint after the engine breakin period.
    • Spark plug wires will be blue
    • The engine will be fuel injected using a Holley Terminator X computer and Holley ignition system.
  2. COLOR - Color scheme will be some shade of blue with black highlights where it makes sense.  Probably a black grill and the interior will be black.  All the interior guages will be blue highlighted with black backgrounds.
  3. Trim - Lee would like to keep the chrome trim to a mimimum.  Cars in those days had a lot of it.  I believe we will end of with chrome around the windshield, rear window and a narrow strip that we may need to use on the drip rail, this one is still to be determined.  There will also be a piece across the top of the grill and the headlights will be trimed with chrome.  Then off course the door handles and mirrors.  The beltline trim will be eliminated as will the trim around the wheel wells.
  4. We are going to install a custom console with the standard Chevelle horseshoe shifter.
  5. Seats will be Procarr 90

  6. The dash will be a custom carbon fiber lookalike with round gauges.  Typically this year Chevelle had square guage panels.  The guages going into the dash will be Dakota Digital HDX-2060 round gauges.

  7. The ignition key will be replaced with a Digital Gaurd Dawg push button start and security system with passive entry with a blue lighted push button.

  8. Wheels will be HK Magnum 17 x 8

  9. The car will be upgraded from drum to 4 wheel disk brakes.
  10. A Classic Air A/C system will be installed
  11. Power Brakes will be added
  12. Power Steering will be included.
  13. Front and rear sway bars.  We have been discussing lowering the car 2" but I am not sure I am ready to do that yet and sometines it becomes a can of worms that I may not be ready to take on.  We will see.
  14. Lighting will be Chevelle stock except we will put Xenon halo headlights on.
  15. I will install the Dakota Digital PAC 1300 module which provides light sensitive headlings, a fading dome and courtesey lights, and Retained Accessory Power.
  16. Grill will be a stock Chevelle grill which will be blacked out.
  17. Lee will choose any GM steering wheel.
  18. A black IDIDIT steering colum will be installed
  19. Heated front seats.
  20. The custom console will be made by CTC Truck Consoles and will include an electronic gear display, door lock switch, USB charger, USB input to the radio, a Kenwood 706S double din radio, phone storage tray, and cup holders.  Plus a plug in for access to the engine computer.
  21. Radio will be in the console supporting bluetooth, Android Auto for GPS, 2 rear deck speackers, 2 kick panel speakers, 8" sub behind the back seat, a power amp under the package tray, backup camera, and am/fm antenna built into the windshield.
  22. Windows will be manual crank.
  23. Exhaust with use 2 1/2" pipes with aggressive sounding mufflers.  Standand corvette manifold.
  24. Stock suspension but could possibly be lowered 2"
  25. At this point the new sheet metal required if the entire passenger compartment floor, driver and passenger toe panel and firewall, passenger front fender, lower patch on driver fender, lower patch on both the driver and passenger rear quarter, rear window gutters, deck panel, upper cowl, passenger inner fender, radiator support panel, and the bumper filler panel.  Upon disassembly of the car other sheet metal may be required.
  26. But, the entire frame is in great condition.
  27. Car will be assembled, panel aligned, then the front clip will be removed, doors, and trunk panel for painting.  The car will be painted with 2 coats of black epoxy primer, 2 or 3 coats of high build primer if neccessary, 2 or 3 coats of blue basecoat, 3 coats of clear.  The point will be sanded with 1000, 2000, 3000 grit paper the cut and buffed.

So in a couple years we will compare the car with this list and see how well we did.
