Cowl is in

Another day of work to go but for the most part the cowl has been installed.  See the before and after pics.

BEFORE

AFTER

The cowl and window channel are all new metal.  You see some orange on the dash.  That is not rust, but is orange rust catalizer paint that was used underneath it to preserve it.  The catalizer was also used in the kick panel area and inside the a-pillars to catalize any rust I was unable to reach.  In the next day or so I will be prepping the cowl, dash, and kick panel area to apply epoxy primer.

AFTER

Work completed and epoxied.

You can see half the firewall was cut out in the previous pic to allow me access to get the cowl removed.  The firewall will be replaced after the floor, which will be next after I built the body cart.  A slightly different sequence then planned but because of the way the floor overlaps the firewall I need to do it this way.

After the floor is cut out and before it is unwelded I will use the opportunity to be able to stand in the car to work the interior of the roof.  There is a lot of sufface rust there and a couple braces will be replaced.  Once that is done I will be working the upper windshield channel that is pretty bad.

MAJOR PROBLEM!!

We just notice the floor panel that we had stored outside leaning on the house has blown over and has been damaged.  Not sure if I can straighten it or not.  If it cannot be done easily I believe I need to trash it.  This is a key part to keeping the car square and if it is not installed correctly other parts won't fit right.  Yuk....

  1. I have decided that I think it can be repaired. Once I get the car of the frame I can install the new floor onto it and bolt it down and the bend it back to shape. Should be fine then.
