Lee visits Myrtle Beach to come work on the frame!
Hey everyone! This is Lee jumping in to write about my trip to Myrtle Beach this week!
I flew into Myrtle Beach with my youngest daughter Shaelynn this past Thursday. We came for a quick visit to FINALLY see my car in person! I have been working very closely with my dad throughout this process to pick and choose what I want for this special car that is being built for me.
First, I want to begin with that ever since my dad first told me about doing this project for me, I have been more excited than I could even begin to explain. As he has mentioned in an earlier blog, he had restored a few cars prior to this one and this one will most likely be his last. I have worked with him on two of his other vehicles; a 1977 Ford F100 and a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible. These times working with my dad on these cars has been very special to me. I have had the chance to work and learn so many things about vehicles in general. I may not have known much but I was never afraid of getting dirty (well maybe a little bit afraid of getting dirty ha-ha!). Here is what I looked like a few years ago after pulling out and replacing the gas tank and all gas lines on the F100 a few years ago!
And to be honest this visit I didn't end up any cleaner!
Ok, well now that I was able to share with you a bit about me let's get on to the car! For the 5 days I was here our end goal was to get the frame painted. This started with us having to removing everything from the frame. I didn't get the very beginning point pic, but this one is pretty close with only a few things removed.
Once dad and I finished grinding off the rust we then went over the frame with degreaser as well as soap and water to make sure the new paint would adhere correctly. Then we went and painted the entire frame inside and out with rust protectant. I want my baby to be rust free for as long as possible!!
Well as I write this is time for me to go pack and get ready for my flight home tomorrow. I will miss the next phase of my car, but I will be back soon! Planning to at least be back here to paint this beauty! Wonder what color she will be????
