Putting the Frame and Suspension Back Together
This will be covered in a couple of posts. First the rear axle and suspension.
I started by painting the brake calipers because I will be putting the new disc brakes on after the axle is re-installed. Lee wanted these to be blue so I bought some Hi-Temp blue paint that is similar to the color the car will be.
Then the axle was installed with new control arms and springs.
And the disc brakes were installed along with a rear sway bar which the car didn't have when I took it apart. Looks pretty good. From there I installed the brake lines and fuel lines going up to the front of the frame where they will be terminated later when the front suspension is installed.
Fuel line terminate right behind the axle. This is the fuel line running along the passenger side of the frame.
I have started working on the front suspension but found Lee and I threw away some nuts I needed for the ball joints so I am waiting on replacements.
In the meantime I'm doing final preparation on the wiring plans and working on assembly of the dash panel.
Here is where the dash panel stands.
I need to install the A/C controls in the blank spot on the right but found the hole needs some trimming so I'll get to that someday. The A/C center vents go into the area right above the controls and I have found that they do not fit. This puts me at a standstill on this project until I can figure what to do. I had a similar problem with my car but it was easier to fix because I was using the stock dash panel which was easier to cut and fix if you cut wrong. This dash panel is custom built for these gauges and is covered by a carbon fiber print so mucking it up will make a big mess. When I run into these issues I usally set it aside to think about and come back in a few weeks.
I mentioned before this would probably be my last car. Since then I decided I may do another but the doctors have found I have a defect in the electrical connections of my heart and thus have a slow heartbeat that also does some weird things. Because of this I may need to get a pacemaker in the near future which will fix everything but with that I may not be able to use my welder anymore due the the EMP energy the welder produces and the effect the EMP has on electronic devices. This would mean if I want to do another car I cannot get one that needs rust repair so I probably will start thinking about another hobby that keeps me happy and out of the house. I may rebuild my woodshop, build a model train layout, build and fly RC model planes, take a trip around the US, or something else fun. Can't wait to see what it may be but I am positive it won't be more golfing.
