Trunk pretty Done
The used trunk hinges arrived an were de-rusted and cleaned up. They fit perfectly. Had to get inside the trunk with the lid on to position the hinges then weld them on. That seemed to work out ok. I'll know for sure once the lid is mocked up...probably this week. I epoxied the inner surface already and will do the outer surface when I do the quarter panels.
Hinges are in.Here's the trunk completed. This is black epoxy and will not be topcoated as it will be covered with carpet. I installed an access door in the floor so the fuel pump can be accessed and repaired/replaced without removing the tank.
I wasn't going to but I epoxied the interior floor also. I was going to leave it witht he black edp coating the most sheet metal comes with but later read that any scratches in that paint will allow moisture in to rust the floor. So I put the epoxy primer on it. So the floor is completely painted top and bottom and undercoated. Should last a while or at least till I'm dead and don't care.
I've had some folks that know what they're doing look at this progress so far and they say there amazed at how its coming together so someone should be very grateful when they get their hands on this baby!
I am about a week behind my schedule so far, mostly caused by the weather and my neighbor. I am currently working on removing the old paint from the main body and getting the major dents fixed. This car was clearly used in a demolition derby or other racing events that caused contact. When removing the paint I found a lot of bondo that I ground off completely in the quarter panels. Also in the rear trunk panel. I am able to repair the dents so its not a problem and the car will look perfect but had I known they were all there I would probably have replaced the quarter panels. Its too late for that now plus that would add another $1,000 to the project thats already overbudget.
Next post will hopefully show the quarter panel repairs complete. I'm about done on the passenger side and will start the drivers side today.
The schedule is being updated from the link on the home page and the areas that are complete are highlighted in green.
