First Look at the Color

Today I put the color on the trunk lid and two doors.  This involved first a bunch of cleaning then applying two coats of a white epoxy sealer as all the parts have to be the same color before shooting the blue because its somewhat translucent.

This pic is after 1 coat.

Then, clean the gun....ugh.... and wait at least 30 minutes and apply 3 coats of the Daytona Blue Pearl basecoat with 15mins between coats.

This is the color before the shine is applied.

Then clean the gun...ugh, ugh.  Wait 30 minutes and apply 4 coats of clearcoat with 15mins between coats.

So this is the final product.  Came out pretty good considering it was done in my garage with no air filtering and will need a cut and buff to get out some of the dirt particles that got in it but the orange peel is not too bad so I'm very happy with the paint job!

My plan is to take the car to my buddy Damon who detailed my Chevelle last week and pay him to wet sand and buff the car when its all reassembled.

Tomorrow I'm going to paint the underside of the hood with a final coat of black and maybe Saturday I will feel like applying the color to the two fenders.  Then I'll get to the color coat on the hood the week after.  At that point I'm not sure what I am going to do about painting the main body til I find a helper.  If my helper can come down in July I will wait until then.

Its after 5 now and I have been working on this since 11am.  I'm pooped and need a shower and nap.
