Back to Work

Finally I'm back to work on the car.  Nothing has been done since Lee left when she helped paint the body of the car.

I haven't done anything because I have been sick.  I had a high fever that my doctor decided was a UTI but it probably wasn't.  I can't actually get in to see my real doctor because they don't make any sick appts. available.  You have to see an PA.  Seems most of the PAs that have time to see you have no experience.  The one I finally got to see though I might have Covid but the test was negative, then decided I had a UTI...even though I had a high fever that you don't usually get with a UTI.  So I went another week with the high fever while her UTI anitbiotics were working and then decided to go to one of those Doctors Care places.  Got in easily and they said to go to the ER right away because my blood/oxegen was real low.  88%.  Said I may have Pnemonia even though the chest Xray they did was inconclusive.  Got into the ER and they didn't see anything on the chest Xray but got me on oxegen right away.  Finally they decided to do a CAT SCAN.  Pnemonia showed up at the bottom of both lungs on the scan so I got admitted and they proceeded to fill me full of antibiotics.  That went on for 4 days when they finally let me out...after giving me a $64,000 bill.  Took another couple weeks at home to start getting my energy back but now I am back to normal after loosed 14 lbs but I have gained back 4.  Hopefully no more.

The paint had a serious flaw we noticed when we finished in that the top and sides showed streaking...light and dark areas that looked like strips.  This turned out to be a problem with the white sealer coat that was applied first.  During the application of this coat the spray gun developed an issue and would not spray evenly.  I chose to ignore this and continued to spray the blue basecoat over the streaked sealer.  This was a big mistake at the blue basecoat is translucent so the streaks in the sealer coat showed through in spots.

To remedy this I have to paint the top and sides of the car again.  I am not doing the rear panel or the cut in work around the doors and cowl as these areas seem OK.  I had to sand the clearcoat down smooth with 600 grit paper and remask the car.  This work is all done and I am preparing to make another pass of the white sealer tomorrow.  I am just doing the sealer though as I am working alone and trying to do the whole process by myself is just too much for me.  Once the white sealer is on I will stop and allow it to dry overnite.  By doing this the sealer must be sanded or scuffed up so the next blue basecoat will stick.

However, by doing the sanding I will ensure the sealer is smooth and any dust and dirt will be taken out so that the blue coat will go on much better.  I had probelms with the doors where dirt got into the sealer and once the blue was on and it was cut and buffed the dirt bumps from the sealer poped through the blue.  I may end up doing them over also.

Here are pics of the car how it sits ready to re-seal tomorrow.
