May be getting to the end of the paint job
This has been unbelievable with all the issues I have had with with getting the paint on this vehicle. I am getting near the end now, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of the car has been painted twice now and I just finished color sanding and compounding the panels.
See pics, not that good but you can get an idea:
The original paint was streaking in spots and had about 7 or 8 defects that I didn't like. I fixed them all and tried to repaint the defective spots by just painting the area and blending the paint with the original paint. This worked on most of the car but did not work on the drivers fender and the header panel. These two panels I will repaint tomorrow.
There are still a couple defects I will not attempt to fix but at least the car is in a condition where I am pretty proud of how it is coming out and will not stay awake working about it now.
There is a yearly car show coming up on the 21st of this month at Liz's school. Two years ago I took my red chevelle to this show and won a prize. I am hoping to take both Chevelles to this show this year and put them side by side. Should be really cool if I can get this one in a condition to go. Its about 20 miles away. I still have the bumpers and trim to put on. I am going to put all the trim on without doing the blackout Lee may want and if it turns out we are still going to do that I will do it later as I had intended to paint all those parts with the trim on the car and just mask everything off to do it anyway.
It appears I still may have an electrical problem with the turn signals also but this may solve itself after the bulbs are installed.
Also, the car has had no tuning done on it but I am hoping we can still drive to the show that way.
So I'll sand and paint the two remaining panels tomorrow if all goes well and color sand and compound them Friday. Then over the weekend the entire car will be polished with finishing polish and a couple weeks later a nice wax needs to be applied. Then it will be pretty much done except for the trim blackout project. I may wait for Lee to see the car in person before I do that though as it will be easier to judge what that will look like if you actually see it in person. Maybe she will even help me!
